Notice for eligible candidates interested to join New Medical Education Initiative (NMEI) schools administered by the Ministry of Health

Preamble

The Ministry of Health has delegated Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) to administer the entrance exam for the National, Innovative, New Medical Education Initiative (NMEI) Entrance based on the NMEI curriculum’s Admission Policy.

 Responsibilities of Saint Paul’s is limited to registration of potential candidates, conducting the entrance examination, and dissemination of results. Both registration and dissemination of results will be online which will be posted on the Ministry of Health’s official website and Facebook page; and SPHMMC’s official website, Facebook page, and Telegram.

Once the results are compiled and submitted, all other activities will be executed by MoH.

I. Applicants who fulfill the following requirements are invited to register for the 2016EC academic year New Medical Education Initiative (NMEI) entrance examination.

A. Bachelor’s degree in Health sciences; Biology and Chemistry

B. Cumulative GPA at BSc. graduation shall be 2.75 for female applicants and 3.0 for male applicants

Cumulative GPA for applicants from emerging regions shall be 2.5 for female applicants and 2.75 for male applicants.

C. At least 2 years of service after graduation

D. Age not more than 35 years

E. Sponsorship letter from a government institution

F. Self-sponsorship from the private sector will be accepted.

G. List of emerging regions with a quota of candidates from each area:  

  • Afar (2)
  • Borena zone (2)
  • Benshágnul Gumz (2)
  • Gabmbella (2)
  • Somali (2)
  • South Omo zone (2)
  • Wagehmira Zone (2)
  • West Omo Zone (2)

II. Selection Criteria:

Selection of applicants to the New Innovative Medical Education Initiative (NIMEI) program includes the following criteria.

A. Written examination (60%)

  • All eligible candidates will sit for the written exam.
  • The examination will have 100 multiple-choice aptitude questions. (Situational judgment, Visual reasoning, Spatial reasoning, Numeric reasoning, Verbal reasoning)

B. Structured interview (30%)

  • The top 260 candidates from the written entrance exam will be selected to sit for the interview.

C. Document review will be done according to the NIME curriculum admission instructions.

D. To encourage female candidates from all regions, will be awarded an additional 5%.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTION

  • The registration is only online
  • To proceed with the registration, pay Birr 400.00 (Four Hundred) registration fee using CBE account number 1000208431068 CBE.
  • There are two major categories, Emerging regions, and non-emerging region. In addition to the emerging region there are special zones with in non-emerging region that are included in the non-emerging region (e.g. , Wagihmra, Borena) as indicated on Section I.G
  • Select only one of the entries that suits you. Multiple entries (more than one entry) will disqualify your registration.
  • Inappropriate entries into emerging region without valid support letter that clearly states you are currently working in the emerging zone/ Region will disqualify your registration.
  • If your registration fails due to internet connection problem or any other incident, you can start your registration from the beginning or if it is saved continue from where you have stopped
  • Incomplete registrations will be invalid and disqualify your registration.
  • Upload all documents in PDF or JPG format. Documents to be uploaded are BSc. degree, Student copy, government issued ID or birth certificate, recommendation letter which verifies years of experience, bank slip/advice showing you paid the registration fee ( 400 birr)

For applicants from an emerging region/zone, a letter of verification that you are currently working in the region /zone should be attached.

N.B:

  • The capacity of schools for the 2016 EC academic year is Adama Hospital Medical College 50, Yirgalem Hospital Medical College 40, and Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College 50.

Date of examination:

  • The written exam for all registered candidates will be on Sunday Ginbot 4, 2016 Ethiopian Calendar.
  • The interview date will be on Sunday Ginbot 11, 2016 Ethiopian Calendar.
  • The result will be posted by Ginbot 14, 2016

Appeal process

  1. Appeal dates will be only on the indicated dates. Any appeal after the stated date will not be accepted.

                a. Written Examination: Two consecutive days after the exam result is posted

                b. Structured Interview exam: Two consecutive days after the exam result is posted

      2. To start the appeal processes, the following conditions should be fulfilled         

  • The legal (Government-issued) ID of the applicant or legal delegation document from government authorities is a prerequisite to conduct the appeal process.
  • A person who has an appeal should first pay Birr 400 on the following CBE Bank Account 1000208431068 CBE
  • A signed written request letter to check the exam result attached with the bank deposit slip must be presented by the applicant at SPHMMC Academic and Research Vice Provost Office, in person.
